Who Are We?

Picture
We are a group of people who have come together for the further benefit of East Hendred and visitors to the village, to organise events and entertainment and to raise money as support for charities, groups, societies and residents of the area. The main focus is on entertainment and fun for all ages in and around East Hendred and creating an environment where we all gains from combined efforts.

Each year we distribute half of our profits by way of Grant and to date have given over £9,000 to village groups and charities.  Anyone can apply for a grant, but we do make some restrictions as each application must be for a specific project and submissions must be made in writing by 31 January annually.  Only one application can be made each year and not all applications will be successful. The committee’s decision is final although unsuccessful applicants can apply again in following years.

After the grants are made the remaining surplus and any interest earned during the year will be invested in a ‘long-term’ deposit account to form an Endowment.  The Endowment is primarily for interest-bearing earning potential, but may, at the discretion of the Management Committee, be used by East Hendred Entertains for the long-term benefit of the charity or East Hendred village.

Fourth Annual Scarecrow Trail

Picture
The theme for this year is 'Characters from Book'. So polish up your Shakespeare or let your Harry Potter magic run wild. Maybe your infuence is more Tolkien or Tolstoy, Hemmingway or Halligan or even Zola if you run out of names!.

Whatever it is we want to see it.

The trail walkers (official name for those who undertake the walk) will get to vote on each scarecrow and the top 5 scarecrows will be judged by an International and Independent Judge (well maybe not Internation!) and the winners will be announced at the Family Show on 5 September 2010.

Let's make this our best one yet!

Thrift Shop

Picture
We run a Thrift Shop on Friday afternoons between 1pm to 4pm at the “Tin Hut” on Newbury Road, East Hendred, just passed St Augustine’s Church. We sell clothes, bric-a-brac, books, toys, small items of furniture and even locally made jams & preserves. We are always pleased to receive donations of the same as we have a constant turnover of stock. Please call Val Prior on 01235 833973 for delivery and collection details. Unfortunately we cannot accept or sell electrical items. Come and join our friendly group, pick up a bargain or just enjoy a cup of tea, slice of homemade cake and chat and make new friends.

We would like to dedicate our web site to the memory of Barbara Riley who left our merry band in 2009. We miss this fine lady but do feel that she is still with us and watching over us.
